Capital Center – New Bus Hub

Project Description:

This design explores the revitalization of an underutilized parcel within Providence’s Capital Center Special Development District, which aims to establish a vibrant mixed-use complex. Central to this idea is the proposed relocation of the City’s bus hub from Kennedy Plaza .

The building accommodates a variety of functions – including the bus hub, retail outlets, a restaurant, and residential apartments. Emphasizing community interaction, the design integrates open space throughout the mass of the building. Elevating the ground level provides sheltered access and efficient circulation for buses, while supporting a podium above that houses retail storefronts and a roof deck. Above this level are residential units, a restaurant, and affordable housing tailored for nurses and teachers.
